A Goblins favourite book

This animated project is about a goblin that finds a magical book.

The goblin is called Moker, unlike the other goblins Moker grew up with, he loves to read. Thus going on an adventure to find stories to tell.

In this particular story, we meet Moker on one of his first adventures. He finds himself in an old library that seems to be abandoned. While looking around he stumbles across a book, when he picks it up to give it some thorough inspection, it lights up.

This is no ordinary book, it’s a magical book. A magical book that chooses Moker as it’s owner. What the book can do is yet unknown. But perhaps a mystery to solve another time.

Character

First I began with creating a model sheet for my character. Normally a whole character design process would be before this, however this character was already established, thus I merely had to learn how to draw him in different positions. 

Storyboard

From there I moved on to creating storyboards, this took a long time as I wanted a lot of feedback on how to visually make this story work the best. Though I must say, not much changed from the original idea. 

Animatic

Once the storyboard worked nicely I made several animatics. To get the timing and the design just right. 

Backgrounds

When it came to backgrounds, I wanted to make the environment feel lived in, but also feel chaotic yet magical, which is not the most useful description I'm aware. Though in the final result, I got pretty close. 

Rough animation and clean up animation

Once the backgrounds were ready I could start on the rough animation. This took quite some time and I received a lot of feedback. It was my first time animating such a detailed character thus I wished to do it well so I could learn from it. The rough animation went rather well the clean up animation took a bit more time, to make sure it looked at neat as possible.
